What is in The Clean People laundry sheets?
The maker's product page lists eleven ingredients: starch, PVA, vegetable glycerin, sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, glycereth-6 cocoate, cocamidopropyl betaine, caprylyl/capryl glucoside, lauryl glucoside, sodium gluconate, propylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate and potassium sorbate, a preservative. The page also sells a Fragrance Free size of 32 loads.5
The maker's separate ingredients page lists a shorter nine-item list and leaves out glycereth-6 cocoate and potassium sorbate. It names fragrance only "where applicable". The maker also lists what the sheets are free from: dyes, optical brighteners, phosphates, parabens, formaldehyde, and the preservatives MIT, BIT and triclosan.10 It says the sheets leave out 1,4-dioxane.11
Do The Clean People sheets contain PVA?
Yes. The maker says so on its own page, and adds that you won't find laundry sheets without PVA on store shelves.12 PVA is a water-soluble synthetic polymer that carries the detergent until it meets water.13
If you want to avoid PVA, a powder like Molly's Suds is the simple swap.6
Is The Clean People on EPA Safer Choice, and does EWG rate it?
We found no Safer Choice listing for The Clean People,1 and EWG's database has no Clean People products.4 That means we found no listing, not that the product is unsafe.
We also found no Prop 65 notice or CPSC recall that names The Clean People laundry products.2, 3 A Prop 65 notice is an allegation, not a finding.
Are the Clean People pods and liquid the same as the sheets?
No. The maker's list for the pods names an alcohol ethoxylate, fragrance where applicable, and PVA film.7 The sheets name one, glycereth-6 cocoate, and no alcohol ethoxylate.5
We could not find the liquid's full ingredient list as text.8 The product page says only that it leaves out SLS, parabens, phosphates, phthalates and synthetic dyes.
Should I buy The Clean People sheets or a powder?
Buy the sheets if you want no scoop and no jug and PVA is fine with you. Buy a powder like Molly's Suds if you want no PVA, no ethoxylated ingredient and a lower cost per load.4, 6
Molly's Suds powder wants warm or hot water,14 so cold-water washers may prefer the sheets.
