How long should the cleaner sit on old dog urine?
Rocco & Roxie says to let its cleaner sit for several hours, or overnight, on stains that are set in or very deep.2 For older stains its FAQ says to let it sit for a couple of days.8
Nature's Miracle's directions are shorter. For its Dog Urine Destroyer Plus you soak the spot, wait 15 minutes, then blot.3 For old or stubborn odors on carpet, its Advanced formula says to lay a wet towel over the spot for 1 to 2 hours.9
These are the makers' own directions.
Why does old dog urine still smell after I clean it?
Rocco & Roxie puts it this way: the key is allowing the product to contact the urine and have time to work.10 If the smell stays, it says the cleaner may not have touched all of the urine, so apply again and let it sit longer.11
Rocco & Roxie says heat from a steam cleaner can deactivate its enzymes. It says to treat the spot first, then steam clean a day or two later.12 Nature's Miracle warns that other cleaners and detergents can chemically set stains, so use its product first.13
Is Resolve Urine Destroyer an enzyme cleaner?
Reckitt's safety sheet for Resolve Urine Destroyer lists hydrogen peroxide and names no enzyme.5 The sheet was issued in January 2019 and lists only hazardous ingredients, so it may not match your bottle.14 We list it as a peroxide cleaner. Check the label on your bottle for its current ingredients.
Are these cleaners a problem in a home with cats?
Pet Poison Helpline lists citrus oil (d-limonene), pine, peppermint, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus and tea tree oils among those known to poison cats.15 Call your vet or a pet poison line if a pet may have licked a cleaner.
Nature's Miracle Dog Urine Destroyer Plus lists d-limonene.3 The Rocco & Roxie label says only "Fragrance", so we cannot say which oils it holds.1 The Angry Orange label lists orange peel oil.6
What about Angry Orange?
Angry Orange Enzyme Stain Removers were recalled on January 22, 2026.16 We do not list them as a buy. The Angry Orange recall page shows what the recall covers and what to buy instead.
