What do floor makers say about wet cleaners and pet urine?

Mohawk's care manual for engineered wood says to remove spills promptly and not leave moisture on the floor.8 It says not to pour liquid directly on the floor.5 For spots it says to mist a clean microfiber cloth with a Mohawk recommended cleaner and rub the area.9

Mohawk also says damage from excessively wet maintenance, or from detergents and other cleaners, is not covered by its warranty.10 Bona says that on hardwood, using too much water or the wrong cleaning ingredients can cause damage.11 Check your own floor's care sheet before you pick a cleaner.

Is an enzyme cleaner safe on hardwood?

Rocco & Roxie says its cleaner is safe and effective on many hardwood floors. It also says that too much water can cause swelling and, in extreme cases, warping.12 Its FAQ says to use it sparingly on wood.3

Nature's Miracle says not to use its Advanced cleaner on untreated hardwood.4 Bona describes its cat formula as designed to clean hardwood or hard-surface floors, carpet and area rugs.1 None of the three says raw wood is fine.

Which enzyme cleaner has a floor maker behind it?

Bona's Cat Formulation is the enzyme one. Bona says it is probiotic based and produces enzymes when a food source is present.1 It comes ready to use, so there is nothing to mix.1

Bona's Dog Formulation is different. Bona describes it as an oxy powered cleaner that uses hydrogen peroxide.2 If you want an enzyme cleaner for dog urine, Rocco & Roxie is the alternate on this page, used sparingly.3
