What is in Molly's Suds laundry powder?

Four ingredients: sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate and unrefined sea salt. The maker's page says "4-5 simple yet powerful ingredients" and names these four. The scented versions add essential oils or natural fragrance.^{1, 4}

The maker's list says the powder does not contain synthetic fragrances, 1,4-dioxane, optical brighteners, nonylphenol ethoxylates, phosphates, sodium laureth sulfate, parabens or methylisothiazolinone.⁴ That is the maker's statement. We read it against the list, which has no surfactant at all, and found nothing that conflicts.

Is Molly's Suds EPA Safer Choice certified?

We found no listing. The EPA Safer Choice product list has no Molly's Suds laundry rows.³ The maker's page says "Safer Choice & ISO-16128 compliant," which describes the formula in the maker's words and is not a listing.⁹

No listing is not the same as unsafe. If an EPA listing matters to you, ECOS Free & Clear is on the list and names no fragrance or ethoxylated ingredient, though its maker's list includes methylisothiazolinone.⁶

Does a scented Molly's Suds change the answer?

Yes for fragrance. The maker says the unscented powder contains no essential oils or fragrances and every other scent contains natural fragrance from plant essences and oils.⁴ If you want no fragrance, buy the unscented version and check the word "Unscented" in the listing title.

What is in Molly's Suds liquid laundry detergent?
