Listings that look right but are not
Grandma's Secret Spot Remover spray, 16 fl oz + 2 fl oz
The listing says toxin-free, but we found no ingredient list from the maker to check that against. We cannot confirm the claim.7
What does non toxic mean on a stain remover?
It has no legal meaning on the bottle. We use two things we can read: the EPA Safer Choice list, and the ingredient list on the maker's page. Only Miss Mouth's has an EPA listing among the sprays we checked.1, 9
Which stain removers list ethoxylated cleaners?
Miss Mouth's lists Ethoxylated Alcohol C12-C15.2 Puracy lists Laureth-7.5 Clean People and ATTITUDE list plant glucosides instead.3, 4
Ethoxylated names flag a possible 1,4-dioxane by-product, and New York says 1,4-dioxane can be a by-product in laundry detergent.10 It is a flag from the label, not proof the chemical is in the bottle.
Do enzyme stain removers work better than oxygen or solvent sprays?
Here is what each label lists. Clean People lists five enzymes.3 Puracy lists six.5 ATTITUDE lists one, amylase.4 Miss Mouth's lists no enzyme.2
What about stain removers that say "toxin-free" on the listing?
Grandma's Secret says toxin-free in its Amazon title. We found no ingredient list from the maker to check that against, so we cannot confirm it.7
